No notification led?

I got my s10 a few days ago, graduating from an s5. I just have a question what you do for notification for text, email, missed call, whatever. I used to leave my phone on a table and walk up to it and it was nice knowing if there was an activity without picking it up. Is there a way on the s10 to do this? The edge light thing doesn't seem to be able to be set to repeat. Just curious if there really is no notification or if I'm missing something.
