Hey everyone, I would really appreciate it if anyone could shed some light on this because I have been scouring the web for days trying to figure it out--

I can't find any option to turn off hearing aid mode on my phone!! It is actually deafeningly loud and everyone I call complains of being able to hear an echo of their own voice.
I got a new Telus HTC One the other day and noticed that little ear icon in the notification area.. So I searched around and everyone asking about it on the web seemed to be given the same solution (go into settings/call and turn off hearing aid mode)- but the option, as far as I can tell, is completely absent from my phone.

Anyone have any idea what I might be missing?

My One is rooted and running Android 4.1.2 at the moment... I know the 4.3 update will be rolling out to Telus customers over the next few weeks so I've been crossing my fingers that the new update will fix this issue, but I'm sure there has to be a way I can do it in the short run. Is there any way to show hidden options on a rooted phone?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with this. Hoping it's a forehead-slapper and not a really tough thing to solve..!

Welcome to Android Central! I don't have a One, but try checking Settings/Accessibility, and see if any of those settings are turned on for hearing-impaired.

Go to settings. Then go to call. Scroll down .....you'll see hac option for the hearing impaired...uncheck box to disable.....the ear icon in the notification bar will vanish.:-)

This is the entire call menu.. it's not on there anywhere! My girlfriend also has an HTC One (hers is an unrooted phone on Virgin Mobile) and I couldn't find the menu anywhere on hers either. So confused

What's under "Additional Settings"? Also, did you check Settings/Accessibility?

Thanks for the responses.. It's not on either of those menus, though. Is there some sort of system registry type thing in android that I could just toggle hearing aid mode off in? This is driving me nuts, everyone I call complains about a crazy echo and even at the lowest volume setting the earpiece is deafening. At this rate, I'll probably need a hearing aid soon anyways and this will all work itself out...
Anyone have any other ideas? Can anyone else using a Telus HTC One check and see if the hearing aid menu shows up on their phones?

Hi there,

I also have the HTC One and the ringing tone is awfully loud at its lowest level. I do not have an icon at the top saying that the hearing aids is turned on, but it seems like it is turned on as default. And I have exactly the same problem as you: there is no where in the settings to turn off hearing aids. Really wish that I could lower the ringtone. It wakes up the neighbour if my phone rings late, so imagine a chock I get laying next to it! - And yes that is at the lowest possible level. Also very embarrassing in the office, where everybody is pulled out of concentration if my phone rings even while in my pocket. I have turned off Beats and selected a smooth ring tone, but for no good.
