no security update since January ?

Welcome to Android Central! Lenovo is pretty notorious for poor update support on their phones -- even flagships. Given their history, this should unfortunately not come as a surprise.:-\

Are you in USA? The phone here didn't come out until Feb. or March 2019. Also, mine has been getting security updates. The one my phone is on now is August 2019.

Yeah, I'm in the US. I don't know if it matters but it's the Amazon version with Alexa.

I'm on Verizon, but I don't if that matters since it is an unlocked phone. I would put the blame on Amazon, not that it helps. Also, according to Motorola's web site the G7 is supposed to get the Android 10 some time. I don't know if Amazon has done to the phone what they've done with their tablets (ie., their own version of Android).

the amazon phones are the same as if the phone was a carrier branded phone.

Just a quick update on the security update for the Amazon featured G7.
You have to update it manually using Lenovo/Motorola software that is available at Motorola support.
I am now pleased to say I am on August security update.
Why didn't they just post that somewhere like on Amazon where I bought it.

I too have wondered about not receiving security updates for a long time. So just went to settings>system>system update, tapped on it and WHOA, I got a"system update" that turned out to be the October 1, 2019 Security Update. All is good

I've been getting updates on my unlocked G7 bimonthly, in fact I just got the October update today. I always get Moto, camera, updates.

AppleIncider, Alexa is an app, not a modification to Android, the updates to Android don't affecxt Alexa and the updates to Alexa (if any) don't affect Android.

I think AppleIncider is referring to the fact that the variant that comes with Alexa preinstalled is the one that Amazon sells at a discount (previously known as the Prime Edition variants). So those might not get updates at the same rate as other variants.

∆ 100% true ∆
Yes, Prime Edition is what I actually meant. And the firmware IS different than the 'regular' unlocked G7.
Thank you

I've got at least bi-monthly updates since purchase. Received July, Aug, and currently am on the Oct1 build.

Standard unlocked G7....not the Prime Version.
