No sender name shows when receiving text message

Hi. I just received a replacement phone. I got it working to my liking but when I receive a text message it doesn't show the name of the sender or a review of the message. What can I do to fix this. Thanks a bunch.

Yes. I transferred all the contacts and old text messages.

Are all your contacts Google, or are some of them phone contacts?

Well it's been a couple weeks since the OP posted the question (yeah, i'm not here often) and i don't see a solution posted so...

If you're using the stock messenger app, open it and go into settings (pressing the menu button). Scroll down until you see "Preview Message" and then make sure the box is checked. This will show the name of the sender and the first line of the message on the lock screen.
