Android Central Question

I tried to send a video, recorded with the selfie camera in the camera app, through messages to someone earlier, and they can see the video fine, but there is no sound (they have an iphone). Checked with my partner, who has an android, and there was no sound when I sent it to him either. Even did a 3 second test video thinking it might be a file size issue, and again, the video works, but no sound.

Have tried recording in "normal" and Safe mode, both the selfie camera and the rear camera, and the outcome is the same.

The videos have sound when I play them back to myself on my phone and are otherwise normal. I have never had any other sounds issues with this phone. Everything else works normally

Moto x4. Device says its up to date; Android version 9.

Does the video have sound when you play it in your sent message on your phone ?
Maybe try different message app and try it out again .

Welcome to Android Central! Sending a video via MMS is not very reliable, because the file has to be severely compressed to meet the 1 MB or so max filesize limit. If you have to send using SMS/MMS, it's better to record your video first, then upload it to some place like your Google Photos or YouTube account, then share the link privately.

So my partner did a test with an android (Samsung note 9) and sent me a short video, and I could hear the sound when he sent it to me. I also checked the file size on some of the shorter ones I did, and they were less than 1mb. I've even gone into the camera app and made it the lowest res possible.

It does seem like messages is the culprit, but I'm curious about why it would fail for mine and work for his.

They are MP4s. You were right about needing to be small files. Got one to work that was less than 3 seconds long, but anything larger and the sound gets chopped off apparently.
