No sound

So I'm still pretty new to android world, so hope I'm not missing something simple here. Couldn't figure out why I stopped getting any soon from the nexus on board speaker. Finally figured out that the music player was defaulting to the Bluetooth speaker I recently added. Even if I reset it to "tablet", it was going back to Bluetooth speaker when closed. And the really odd thing is that when the music player is set to BT, every app sends its sounds to the BT. So I had turned off the BT sound system (but not the BT receiver) and was getting no sound out of the tablet from ANY app - either in my user profile or in my wife's. Only solution seems to be to turn off BT on the nexus or turn off the BT receiver. And it's also pretty annoying to have other device sounds go to BT when I just want my music to go there while I play around with other apps. Anyone have same experience? Better solutions than I've found?

What about unpairing the speaker, and then pairing it again when you need it? You can unpair it in the Settings/Bluetooth menu.
