No system updates available after rooting?

I used a guide from the XDA developers forum to downgrade my moto g 2nd gen from lollipop to KitKat but when I check for system updates I get the message that my phone is up to date.

I don't want to go back to lollipop right away but I intend to do so once 5.1 is out for my device. How do I fix the system update tool?

Here's the guide I followed: [Windows Tool] Moto G 2014 XT1063/64/68 Rest… | Moto G (2014) | XDA Forums

To get OTA updates, you'll have to unroot. Otherwise, you might be able to sideload the update once it's available online.

Okay, so I read somewhere that the phone doesn't receive OTA updates if the device is rooted and it has a custom recovery. So I used SuperSUs Unroot feature to unroot the phone and then flashed the stock recovery to replace TWRP.

Now the phone isn't rooted, and it has stock recovery. But even now when I'm checking for updates it's telling me that my phone is up to date. If it matters, my bootloader is still unlocked but that shouldn't prevent me from getting an OTA update right?

Someone please reply...

Actually, I had download firmware build KXB21.85.27 earlier but this build hasn't received the Lollipop update, so I downloaded and flashed this firmware build: KXB21.85.23 and as soon as I booted up my phone I got the OTA notification for my phone. Problem solved.

Good that glad for you that that's over. Persistence pays off.

Will I lose my apps if I flash the new ROM once it's out? Also I read in an article that it's not wise to restore apps from a Titanium Backup of one ROM to another ROM. Is that really true? How do I overcome this?

One more thing, I always use Titanium Backup. I however, let Google sync back up to my account and let in download my apps. Then when I check things out and run across any apps that does not have my save settings I just restore the app data only. Seems to work I have never had any problems, been doing it this way since KitKat 4.1.
