No Text Notification Sound

I either get only occasional or no text notification sounds om my Galaxy S6. I've checked the settings numerous times and all is at it should be but still. I switch back and forth between Bluetooth devices all the time so I'm wondering if it's related to that. I've tried rebooting the phone and turning it off and on but the problem persist.

Welcome to Android Central! When the phone doesn't notify you, is it always when the phone is asleep, or when the phone is open to the specific message thread where you're getting new messages?
