No texts with numbersync

Well I have tested numbersync twice today and while not connected to the phone I do not receive text messages nor can I send them. I could successfully make a call and I did receive en email notification but no texts. And I can't send them. They just have a red exclamation point on the text and says sent failed. Any ideas on this one?

Per AT&T: You are required to set up AT&T Messages Backup & Sync with your smartphone's mobile number when setting up NumberSync for wearables.

Did you do this step?
 
Thanks. There was never an option to do this when I was setting it up. Is it something I can do now?

Just checked my account and my phone has that feature so that is definitely set up.
