Hello my daughters Nokia 5 android 9 phone has a storage problem. For a long time it said she was short of storage, so I bought her a 64gb sd card. Stupidly I did not think she already had an sd card and opened the slot, inside was a 16 gb card, which I reinserted. I managed to get all the photos off and back them up.
I formatted the new card as internal storage.
When I look at the storage through the phone it says 15 gb of 80 gb used and shows the internal and sd card , the internal still almost full and sd card almost empty
When I plug the phone into a pc to put the pictures back on it show the internal storage as 8.8gb with 2.2 gb free space
So the sd which is now internal does not show up.
My daughter is not happy that all her photos are no longer on the phone. Can anyone advise please.
One last thing ,probably irrelevant thee has been a 1.8gb update that was downloaded long before this storage problem that she refuses to install, would this make a difference. Many thanks in advance

Welcome.

For what reason did you choose to format as Internal Storage rather than use the card as Portable Storage?

Welcome to Android Central! Manufacturers don't always get the implementation of Adoptable Storage entirely right. Moto also has problems.

Can you upload the photos to her Google Photos library in the cloud?

When you connect the phone to the PC via USB, are you unlocking the phone screen before you explore the phone using Windows Explorer?

You pulled the memory card and backed the photos up to a PC I'm assuming. No big deal. I'm assuming that since this is her device you registered with a Gmail of her own? If so log-in to her account on your PC's Chrome browser and in the upper right corner where it shows her logged in, open the extension menu. Choose Photos from there and you should be able to add a selection of photos to her Photos account. On the device if she wants to view them use the Photos app or any app that accesses her backed up photos from the account. For the future turn on Google Photos backup for the folder that saves her captured photos and they will always be available to her. Then you can delete the photos from the device to make room if she ever runs low and still have the backups. (Warning: Be careful how you delete the photos and be sure to select "delete from device" so as not to delete them from everywhere.)

As for the memory numbers, they are very rarely what the MFG claims. The OS and files for the OS and stock apps take up some of that internal memory they say the device has. Those leftover folders and files that everyone feels get deleted when an app is uninstalled stick around and take up room. Here is a guide to help you identify and remove the leftovers... http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...t-over-files&usg=AOvVaw32e-qPdsQo9T11j8KAJBKo

Not sure why the SD or at least its capacity aren't showing up on your PC. I'm not sure how it works when the SD is formatted as internal but when regularly formatted you will often see two folders when you open the device folder. The names vary but basically internal and external memory. I'm just wondering if it's like looking through a keyhole and you can't see the room beyond for the door in front of you??? Although I do remember hearing a lot of chatter about reading and writing to SD cards... I'm not sure. Hopefully at least some of this will be useful even if I can't answer that question.

Thanks for replying belodion
Good question, I guess i thought the original SD card was formatted that way, I had a mental block, this happens to me and I find it difficult to see things in a different way :)
I have now formatted the SD card to portable and my daughter is very happy to get her pics back

Yes I have now formatted to portable and turned back up and sync on, the photos now appear in google photos, also the phone was unlocked when plugged into the pc, I think all is well.

Thanks for the rereply Vid.Junky
I passed on the info, there is no way she would let me log onto her account it took me ages to get a look at her phone, but I appreciate your advice. I think all is sorted now

Thanks to everyone for your advice much appreciated.
