Does anyone know of a good site to get Non-market apps for your phone?

With that, what are your favorite, if any?

Not necessarily "non market" since it is NOW on Market. But, an app called "mylock"-allows you to s skip the lock screen. It was available they their website and I used it then. Also, swype.

Before it's asked.... We should probably mention, in order to download non market apps, go to settings...applications...and select "unknown sources"

is there any way to insure the 3rd party app is safe to install? a way to scan perhaps? as it does warn you that by installing 3rd party if it bricks your phone tuff luck..

There is a way....
You do it just like you do it with your computer - you think before you act. In other words, just use the organ between your ears and you and your Android will be just fine ;)

haha

but im sure there is a way, they have virus scanners for your phone but honestly i doubt those do anything but take up space. I've never personally used one or had a virus on my phone so I cant say for sure just saying what I can assume.

I use the app Lookout, what it does is scan the app after it's installed

Never had a malicious app so no clue if it really works

Just because an App is on the Google Market does not mean it is safe.

You must pay attention to what permissions an app is requesting when you install and decide for yourself if you think that it deserves to the have the right to access something like your contacts and how trustworthy the developer appears to be.
