Hello all, I am completely new to this "mod" thing...
Trying to install ROM on my Optimus s

I have done the following so far:

Reverting to ZVD from ZVH

[optiauto-sfx.exe]

Xionia Custom Recovery <-- which when I just tried to recover, it said no data after doing step 6 on cm7

2.7.2012-barebones-cm72-IHO-Kraven-signed.zip

when I you tube it shows a menu option that says flash zip menu, I have this nowhere in my menu options.
I have "installed" zip from SD on all three files: debug-format, kraven ROM, and google interface.

I'm now scared that I may have messed it up...
Since I have no recovery to go back to, I rebooted, and have what I guess is the new ROM, but every thing seems to run slowly... (at least is not bricked yet)
Where did I go wrong? And where do I go from here?

I followed the instructions to set a recovery, but sadly, I did these steps:

6. Still in recovery, prepare your phone to flash the new Rom. Wipe Cache, then under mounts, format boot, system, data, and cache.

before finding out that I don't have a menu option for flashing zip, so I tried a recovery and had nothing saved. So I tried rebooting, but stopped at LG logo, so I went back to boot menu and installed debug from zip, then CM7, then google.

Why don't I have the flash option? And how do I go back to set a recovery mode pre-ROM install?

Did you perform a nandroid backup after installing Xionia Custom Recovery? If not, you would have no images to recover.

To what youtube video are you referring and how did you come by it?

Sounds like you have a custom recovery then. Also, "Install zip from SD card" is the flashing option. If you did all three of these files, you should be good to go.

Well, if you flashed a ROM, there's only one way to find out it works. ;)
Since I have no recovery to go back to
How and and what point did you erase your recovery?? Do you mean nandroid backup of your rooted stock ROM?

Why so you think you went wrong? And whenever you boot into a fresh install, you need to not touch it for 10-15 minutes so that it builds all the caches properly. Your subsequent boots will not take so long.

ok 1.did you do a nandroid backup
2.if so try to get into recovery by holding volume down, homebutton, power button
3.if that works restore your backup, and start over, make sure you have all requirements

What do you mean "set a recovery?"

The above steps are proper preparation for a fresh ROM install. You should also wipe dalvik-cache, using the Advanced menu.

I think you are confused about what a recovery is. Please read the Welcome Guide. Also, have a look at the thread for Xionia Custom Recovery when you finish that. Hopefully, this clears up your confusion.

Sorry about confusing the nandroid backup and a recovery.
I followed the steps on xionia about setting up a back up. I thought I did that correctly.

as for the youtube video, here it is

Installing Cyanogen 7 Optimus V Tutorial - YouTube

if you see his 4th menu option is flash zip menu

Mine says something completely different.

I have read the welcome guide, many times in the past 3 days, to make sure I don't do something wrong. Started small with downgrading to ZVD, which I completed with success, then on to rooting and a nandroid backup.

The ROM is working (I guess, though it seems slower and less responsive than ZVD)
But now I once again can not connect to PC via USB, like I couldn't with ZVH.

My main goal with all this is to overclock cpu, and partition some of SD card memory to run as RAM (if possible) I am a gamer, not a modder or dev.

I just want a platform that will run stupid apps like angry birds and tiny tower with ease. The stock optimus seems to have issues here. Maybe eventually I'll tinker around on it.

Thanks for your quick reply's and patience :)

Yep, rereading your posts, I'll bet 5 spacebucks that your "boot menu" reads "Xionia CWMA v1.2518" across the top and bottom. That is custom recovery.

It appears that you blew away your rooted stock install without doing a nandroid backup first. Find a good stock-based ROM and you probably won't miss it too much. Anyway, you have a custom recovery and a working ROM. Farfrumbricken.

I do see that the recovery shown in that video does have different options. Although they look alike and have some internal similarities, An Optimus V and an Optimus S are two different devices.

Connecting to the PC: Make sure your USB debugging is enabled and make sure you have the proper drivers installed if using Winblows. Also, take a can of air and clean out the charging port and micro USB connector to be sure.

Glad to see you did a nandroid afterall. Be sure to do another once you get everything set up. That way you will have a fallback if something gets mucked up.

There are some really good ROMs for ZVD and a few more that just sprung up. I'm still partial to Reborn, but try a few and see what you like.

Welcome and good luck!
