I am a noob to Droid so please bare with me. I rooted my new G2X and installed Gingerbread on it. I followed a step by step tutorial which instructed me to flash a recovery, then perform a backup, and then install the gingerbread rom. Everything worked fine, except I lost some of the apps that I had installed previously, as well as Need for Speed which came pre loaded on the G2X. If you backup, does it not automatically transfer any apps you previously had onto the new Rom? The way I understood it was that you could try out a new rom such as Gingerbread, and if you didn't like it, install another option such as CM7, or go back to the default. If you always have to download and install your apps however, this would seem like a bigger task then most would want to do,(especially more then once or twice). Is there a way for me to get Need for Speed back onto my phone as I only got to play it once!

Also, I am using Open Home. When browsing all of my apps, I noticed you could setup a group via the menu so I did this and titled it games. I wanted to put all of the games I have in a separate group so that I do not have to browse through all of the apps to find a particular game. This worked, however all of the games are still in the original group. When I try to delete them from the original app group, it says it will uninstall the game. Is there not a way to move the app without duplicating it?

Finally, if you switch between home launchers, is there a way that you do not always have to reset the settings, such as any icons you created on the home screen, etc?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I am sorry in advance if any of these are dumb questions.

Thanks,

Drew

Apps will not carry over from Rom to Rom. You need to use an app like titanium backup to backup your apps. Then when you switch roms you can restore your apps with titanium.

I'm not familiar with open home so I can't help you there.

Most launchers have an option to backup the configuration and settings if you press menu while on a homescreen. You will still need to manually add your widgets back, though. This is a limitation of android, not the launchers.

BTW congrats on getting root. I'm assuming you also followed the steps to flash clockwork recovery through nvflash, right?

Ok, I thought the guide I was using had me do that using another program but apparently not. So, I download titanium backup, and it will backup my apps and then say I want to switch from Gingerbread to CM7, I can open titanium backup and load all of my apps back on? Do you know if I can get the copy of Need for Speed that came preloaded on my phone from anywhere?

Do you just use the standard launcher? If so, with it can you organize your apps somewhat like I am wanting to whether it is using folders, or groups or whatever. I just want the ability to not have to look through ALL of my apps to find something.

Thanks. I was a little let down after installing Gingerbread though because as far as I can see, there are not many differences between it and the ROM that came loaded on it (I guess its 2.2)? Is this true or am I missing something? I did flashed with NVflash.

Another quick question..have yo used the battery calibration app? I read an article on several different methods to improve battery life and it said to download this app, charge the phone to 100 %, then calibrate the battery and run the battery all the way down. Supposedly after doing this, battery increased greatly. I charged it to 100 %, however when i try to calibrate it, it tells me my phone is not rooted, and it obviously is if I installed Gingerbread.

Finally, should I take the time to try out CM7? I have not used it at all, so I have no idea what is it like. I have always been an Iphone/ipad guy and this is my first droid ( I LOVE IT so far) but don't know too much about all of it.

Not sure about NFS. I use launcher pro plus. It doesn't have grouping of apps. ADW EX does, though. You can try that. It'san awesome launcher.

A lot of gingerbread changes are under the hood so visibly you won't notice a lot of changes.

CM7 is my favorite ROM, but I'm waiting until it gets out of nightlies to flash it. Yes, it's stable. Yes, it's usable. I just personally don't like nightlies.

Just realized I didn't answer all your questions. I've never "calibrated" a battery in my life before.

You are correct about how Titanium Backup works.
