never, rooted before. had a palm pre that i put in developer mode and put preware on but i know that is easier than rooting. still, i am fairly tech savy and have time and patience to learn how to really root.

question is, i have an HP touchpad from the 100 dollar blowout sale that is WiFi only. great device for when im traveling (which is alot since im an airline pilot), unless the hotel doesnt have free wifi. if i do one of the roots can i turn my 3d into a mobile hotspot and assign a password so that my touchpad can log on and join the internet. is there a specific root that i should look into first. yes i installed the system update about 2 months ago......

This is correct. Once you root, you can load a custom rom that has the Sprint Hotspot hack or use Wifi Tether. As an FYI...once you root - DO NOT do any OTA updates from Sprint - the rom developer will update the rom with the latest info. Talking the OTA will cause major issues or possibly loose root for you. Here is a guide to rooting from XDA - [GUIDE]Root Evo 3D!|Win/Mac/Linux|VIDEO WALKTHRU|HTC Unlock Method|9/7/2011 - xda-developers . Thanks.

I recommend definately rooting. It allows you to reap the full capabilities of your phone. Besides the ability to get hacked wifi and sprint hotspot, you can experiment with different kernels and such. These can allow you to under/over clock your cpu as well as many other tweaks that can affect battery life. Check out the roms available on xda and read what these roms have to offer. There are performance tweaks, battery tweaks, themes etc...Rooting your phone gives you total control of your device. I have to warn you though, once you start flashing roms it kind of becomes an addiction. My name is mjcole2003 and I'm a flashaholic...
