Ok I'll admit to being Fridays noob of the Day.
So a brief outline of my brain fart....
Coming to the end of the Day at work yesterday and thought I would check on emails etc so I did the usual get the phone out of the dust proof pouch and do a fingerprint scan, nothing, so I do numerous scans and still nothing, so I unlock with the Iris unlock, check stuff and lock phone.
So then I try the fingerprint unlock again for peace of mind, still no unlock so when I get home I give the phone a check over, clean scanner etc, still not working, reboot and clear cache, still no joy. In the meantime I'm seeing stories online of fingerprint scanners not working, so finally I do a factory reset, not using smart switch encase it's a rogue app(what a ball ache).
So after setting up still fingerprint scan not working. At this point my mistake becomes aparent, my finger seems a little sore, i check the print under light and to my amazement I had lost half of the print on my finger due to using sandpaper and glue!
Ok so next task is to register another finger and voila, worked perfectly.

My fingerprint, although half worn away, also had glue in between the print which must have completely thrown the phone scanner.
So now it's semi working on that finger after lots of scrubbing lol.
Am I a noob?
Hahaha!

I work in construction so that happens to me all the time. I usually just add a new fingerprint when it happens

that SO made me laugh, we all do these things and then go DOH and look around hoping nobody saw it lol

Not really. I've been doing this since before the first cellular phone was tried out in NYC. Yesterday I was fooling around with a kind of junk S5 (the port needs replacement, I'm not about to try to pull the screen off a phone at my age, and the repair is about the price of a good used one) and couldn't get the fingerprint scanner to recognize either of my 2 fingerprints. (One on each hand, in case one hand gets injured.) After about 5 minutes it finally dawned on me that when I set the fingerprints up, I carefully and slowly ran my finger over the scanner. But when I was trying to unlock the screen, I moved my finger too fast. Well, at least there was nothing on the phone, so a factory reset didn't hurt anything but 5 minutes of my time.

So even people who are definitely not noobs sometimes screw things up. It's why even experienced engineers have erasers on their pencils.
