I hate to ask but only because I don't know what I'm doing really and i sure as heck don't know where to find the newest cm10 jellybean romantic to put on my phone and was hoping one of you guys knew and wouldn't mind pointing me in the direction to find it.

I stumbled my way back in the day rooting my droid x, but i never put custom roms on it. This will be the first time I've ever done this.

Hey there. What you're going to want to do is read the sticky thread at the top of this forum by bradenfontaine, http://forums.androidcentral.com/droid-razr-maxx/211222-how-root-install-safestrap-custom-roms.html

This will tell you everything you need to know about installing custom ROMs on your MAXX -- with one exception.

Most of the Jellybean ROMs that are available require a higher version of the custom recovery you will install in that tutorial. The recovery is the software that will actually write to your system and install the ROM you wish to run. I don't know all the details of using this latest version, but have used Braden's tutorial multiple times to install other Cyanogenmod 9 / AOKP / other ICS-based ROMs on my MAXX and it is where I would recommend you start. Don't even worry about JB yet. Get your feet wet with that tutorial and installing custom ROMs and when we have a nice, easy to follow guide on the newest version (SafeStrap 3), it won't seem near as daunting or confusing of a task.

I could probably modify Matt's Utility to put 3 on there, but I'm lost when the ROM pages start yelling about only installing to Rom Slot 1 and can't seem to find what exactly that means anywhere in terms of what RS1 is / if I'll be overwriting something.

I managed to update safe strap from 2.0 to 3.05 today. Back earlier in the summer, I downloaded Matts utility because I put the ics 215 leak on and didnt like it, Matts utility help bring me back to 211. You recommend playing around with the ics roms first, why may I ask. Is this because I can't go back to ics once I install a jellybean rom, sort of like gingerbread to ics?

Your first post states "I stumbled my way back in the day rooting my droid x, but i never put custom roms on it. This will be the first time I've ever done this."

That led me to believe that you have never ROMed your RAZR, but if you have Safestrap does that mean that you have installed a ROM in the past?

I recommended ICS because most if not all of the Jellybean ROMs require Safestrap 3 and the guide in the stickies is written for Safestrap 2

I'm sort of knowledgeable a little bit on rooting a phone, but i have that "oh my God what am I do feeling still" what I'm saying is, I know enough to get me into trouble. On my DX, i thought I was putting verizon type builds on, and roms where what developer's changed around and gave builds that not so verizon feel, and what I've just learned is, builds are all considered ROMS. I'm just tired of waiting on the official jellybean update and I wanna start using a build that is as close to the one verizon would approve. I don't know jack about the custom roms that developers release, i assume there's a lot. That's what I'm wanting to do, I wanna use Google Now and the other stuff.

Rom slot 1 is just that is the first slot. you have your stock slot which you don't ever modify and then the first slot. like I said, safestrap 3 is still in beta phase so I'm not going to rewrite the sticky until it becomes the norm for all roms down the road. and as for tweaking Matt's utility I suggest you speak to him about that as I have no rights to his program.

Yeah, I watched a video and read through Hash's website, the process makes a lot more sense now. Also, Matt's utility will still work just fine as far as rooting is concerned For Safestrap, it does nothing but push the Safestrap APK to the phone and install it, which is simple enough to do by hand.

The only JB ROM that I have seen that requires Safestrap 3.5 is the Wizzed Bean ROM over at droidrzr.com, but I have only been running ICS ROMS as of late (currently running Flick 5.0 Tornado.) Why he says to do ICS ROM's for now over going to a JB ROM is probably because most of them have problems that some of us use and need to have working, such as MMS, Camera Flash, to name a couple. What I say is that it is up to you on what ROM to run, if you don't need certain things working properly and cannot wait to have JB, go for it. If you need those things working and just want something that are on some of the newer Droid phones (RAZR HD stuff) then stick with ICS.

BTW, sorry if this did not make much sense, I am effing tired lol.

Hashcode's CM10, Wizzed Bean, BDH Rom, DemoMan's CM10 builds along with his AOSP builds all require Safestrap 3.05. However, there are more than I thought that don't require it. I wonder why they do / what the differences are.

MMS will work with GoSMS according to the threads. The biggest issue for me is the camera flash not working in the stock app, and the only other camera app I want is Moto's built-in camera which I haven't figured out how to pull yet. Also, I'd like to keep HDMI functionality.
