Nook as a video player?

Sorry if this has already been asked, I tried searching around didn't really find the answer. I'm looking into buying a tablet, but one of my main concern is how is the video playback on the Nook (after root and all the fun ROM stuff)? I'm not super picky on quality as long as it's not choppy or anything it should be fine.

I have watched several movies on mine and had no issues with them being choppy. I have all mine set to at least 1gb mp4 files. same as what I have on my PSP, PS3, and EVO! With an average movie being 1gb it allows for pretty damn good quality as well.

I had no problems with the couple of videos I tested, tv episodes of Big Bang and Reaper which are avi files at roughly 180megs per 20 minutes or so of show. It's sad just how much of each hour is now devoted to commercials.

My main question surrounds video players and the codecs ppl use... I have nothing in the .m4v format & would rather use something I already have in some quantity.

CRAZACE: Obviously you're running something besides the stock player, so what are you using & which converter / ripper are you using?

Thoughts? Suggestions?

i use Handbrake to convert everything to .mp4 with a max resolution of 854x480. that is the max resolution that the Nook can handle with its hardware decoding. anything above that has to be done with software which can really make the video choppy.

i've converted 720p videos to the 854x480 and they looked great on the Nooks screen. AVI files that are not at the Nooks max resolution don't have to be compressed any more, but do need to be in the .mp4 format.

Handbrake is easy to use and you can import a premade profile from the net designed to use for the Nook. all you do is name the file, change the resolution, queue up the file and hit start. there is an option to turn your computer off or hibernate if you want which is what i do. i set it at night when i sleep and it turns off when its done.

FWIW I just got mine but it seems to plays some instructional videos I put on it just fine. .mov, .mp4, .wmv and .gbx formats.
I used Rock Player. There may be sound sync issues on some but I have not had a chance to check them all out yet..
