Nook as Photo Browser?

I am thinking of purchasing a nook color, especially since they announced they are planning a significant upgrade in April. My question is, how is it as a photo browser (not even factoring in this future upgrade)? I know its mainly a book reader, but I am also looking for something to show photos easily and having it "look good". Does the nook color do this well, as comparable to a real tablet? Any disadvantages or downsides? I really would like something that can show my photographs in a nice manner to others, basic web surfacing, and a reader (to a lesser degree but is a nice plus) without the hefty price tag of the other tablets out there. I am planning on going to the store to see one in person, but wanted to hear from users as well. Thanks in advance!

Nook Color does have a Gallery application, but I found thumbnail loading to be unnecessarily slow. But If you root your nook color, you can install Market applications and there's an application called +Gallery which does an extremely good job handling photos along with Picasa integration. Think of CoolIris. If you manage to install Nookie Froyo, you get the standard Android Gallery application which too is great for photo viewing as well. I think you shold totally go for Nook color given it's potential as a cheap tablet and the active community behind it. You'll always have pleasant surprises. Also There's an official update coming very soon which will essentially make Nook color a fully functional tablet. I've been using it for about three months now, I couldn't come up with any downsides. Good Luck

Thanks for the response. Not sure if I really want to root the nook- I've never done anything like that, and although I think I could do it, not sure if I want to go that route. Since BN is saying they're upgrading it to android 2.2, at that point would the standard Android Gallery application be available? I am not too familiar with apps and how they all work.. just know that they're bits of software you can download for your devices. Just don't know if BN upgrade would enable users to use them, or would they have to be "nook" specific.
Thanks.

Not sure what the upgrade could bring, but seeing some early details, they are indeed planning to make available apps from Android market. Most apps don't require any specific device type, so if everything goes well, you should be able to get apps from Market.
