Nook Color or Moto XOOM?

Guys, I need your help. With the news of the Nook Color being pulled from shelves shortly, I am scared that they may try to lock down the bootloader ala Motostyle. IF they do that, the hackability will be limited in that there will be no Cyanogen Mod for tablets bought after said "fix". :(

I really want the Nook Color, but can't justify spending on both it and the XOOM tablet at the same time. So I was going to buy the XOOM first, and then get the Nook Color later on in the early summer.

Now, with B&N doing this, I don't know what to do. What do you guys think? Should I get the Nook now, wait for XOOM later (several months after release date), or take my chances that the lock down won't be as bad as I think?

Please help!!:'(

Go for the Nook now. Wait until the 4G or WiFi only versions of XOOM come out.

You'll be kicking yourself if you find out you're locked out of the "new" Nook.

I agree with that reasoning, though I don't see the advantage in owning both a Xoom and a rooted NC. Maybe if you just loved the NC purely for tinkering....

The Nook Color has already proved to be a great mid-range device which has a lot of potential when you tinker with it enough. It's going to depend on if you want to do a little work to get the most out of what you're using.

almost created a topic but it found this one. Thanks for the advice. I wasnt sure if I should wait for the xoom after seeing the superbowl ad. I got mine on friday and was like Dangit.. just figuring out all the mods for it now.

haven't tried Nook, I want to stick to moto and I'm still considering the price between to two.

Look at it this way if they get the honeycomb stable you will save about $550 dollars, but that is a risk. I am sure once the official honeycomb is released the nook will be even better. Check eBay for a pre-pull version there. I bet you can find one. Beside the porting of honeycomb to the nook was free advertising for them. If I was the CEO of b&n I would like thank you thank you devs.

Who cross-shops a Nook Color and Xoom? They are not in the same segment.

If you need the capabilities of the Xoom you either get the Xoom or wait an extra month(ish) and get one of the crop of Xoom competitors that will be coming for cheaper.

If all you need are the capabilities of the NC then for the love of god save a few hundred bucks and get it.
