Pulled the trigger and ordered the 32GB version for the wife. Found out tethering is included in her 2.5GB T-Mobile plan anyway (though not included in my unlimited plan) so saw no point in waiting. Also ordered a MoKo cover which may or may not be sufficient but for $10 it was worth a shot.

I decided not wait. Verizon gives me free tethering on my plan, but I have to make sure I do not blow through the data cap or it gets real expensive. The performance tethering through my HTC DNA is pretty good. I regularly see over 20 mps on my Nexus 7.

Congrats on your purchase. You will love it. I love mine. I did as well for the same reasons. Problem is that using a mobile hotspot drains the battery pretty quickly on the device acting as a hotspot. Not to mention you will need to ensure her phone is charged all the time. Not sure if it is an issue with your wife but mine drains all the devices because she jumps from one to another.

I have been tethering through my Verizon GS4, and it is working great. It does drain the phone battery, but not as fast as actually using the phone itself. It has been about 10% per hour so far.

Thanks folks! Battery drain shouldn't be too much of a problem. She has an extra charging cable at work so she can always top off either as needed.
