I'm new here, but recently, my HTC Hero has been going to crap for me.
It texts amazingly slow, even gets random russian words to pop up sometimes.
It loads every time I need to open a text message, like I have to give it atleast a minute to open a message, and when I hit the wrong persons name by accident, it makes everything I do on the phone become a chore.

Lately I only hear it ringing like once or twice before the person calling gets my voice too.

So mostly, the phone is more of chore than it is fun with its slowness and long loading screens.
Can the forums members help me out on what I need to get/download for this phone?

Ive had the phone for about 6 months now, just the normal stock brand from Sprint. Everything is up to date on it

Look in the Hero ROMs / Hacks section of this forum. You will find instructions of how to root you phone, then how to install custom ROMs. The ROMs are versions of the operating system that have been hacked to work much better. Your hero will run like a much faster phone, getting rid of much of the stuttering, waiting, and the stupid dialer lag. It is easier than it sounds when you actually try it, and you won't regret it.

My Hero was almost unusable until I rooted and flashed a new rom. It is really easy. I went with CM6, but there are plenty to choose from.

My wife's Hero acted almost the exact same as the OP's. We were ready to scrap it. Turns out that a quick trip to the Sprint store, a quick backup and factory reset got her right back up to speed. Only downside was I had to install all her apps again, but even that wasnt bad. Was well worth it to get her up and running.

A factory reset will make the phone run a little better. If you install a custom ROM part of the process is a factory reset, and yes it is a bit of a pain to re-install all the apps, but you will have a phone that does not perform a little better, but will run much faster and smoother than ever before.
