Not charging

Over the last week or so, my RAZR MAXX HD has quit charging while the phone is on. I can connect it to the charger and sometimes it shows charging, but in fact it's not. Other times it doeesn't recognize being connected to the charger. It will charge if plugged into the charger with the phone turned off, but that's problemmatic because more often than not plugging it into the charger causes it to turn on, and then it will not charge. So, I have to turn it off and try again.

I've tried multiple chargers and clearing the system cache with no success. I have not installed any new apps since before the problem started.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried other wall outlets to connect the charger to? Give that a try if not. If still no charge then try a factory reset to see if something is affecting the software - backup your data and sync all accounts before hand. If that still doesn't fix it then it's likely hardware related and you should contact Verizon or Moto for a replacement/repair.

Thanks for the suggestions. Interestingly, the first time the problem showed up I actually thought it was the wall outlet. But I've tried other outlets with the same results. Took the phone by the Verizon store yesterday and they thought the problem might be with the charging connector on the phone but that doesn't explain why it would still charge with the phone turned off. I was in the car most of the day yesterday and it was charging the entire time. The factory reset is kind of a last resort but may be in my future if the problem doesn't resolve soon.

MIne charges only when it's off as well. It can't be the connector itself because the phone charges itself to one or two percent, then once it's on will not accept a charge. So the phone has about 3 minutes of charge time before it repeats this cycle of charge for five minutes, turn off automatically for lack of charge, then turn back on again. I've fiddled with the connection of the charger to the plug ins many times. Not sure if it's permanently broken or if it's something else.
If anyone else has had this problem please let me know. I bought the phone for $120 off ebay less than a year ago. I have had problems with Moto connections before, but if it was a connector problem then it wouldn't charge the phone while the phone was off to the two percent to get it back on, would it?:-\
