not compatible with android auto ??

Android auto says it is compatible with "most" phones running lollipop 5.0... However when I check on the Android auto page it says my phone is not compatible. I am running stock AT&T lg3 updated to 5.0 ota.

Is this true for all lg3s? Is this a hardware incompat or something likely to be fixed with a software update? Is there a way around this?
