Hi I just noticed that I'm not getting any kind of notification (little icon/sound/nothing) when I have a new voicemail. I was thinking how odd it was that nobody has been leaving a msg so I went into my vm and there were a bunch of them there. What do I need to do? I'm sure there's a simple (I hope) solution but I couldn't find it. Thank you!

I chatted w/ someone on the Motorola site and she had me do a clear cache partition but it didn't help. Here are the instructions she gave me to try if you want to try it:

This will remove any temporary files that may be causing the problem, but will not delete your files or settings.

1. With the phone powered off, press the VOL DOWN KEY for 2-3 seconds then POWER key then release. (need to do this kinda at the same time I found out)

2. The device will display different BOOT OPTIONS

3. Use the VOL DOWN Key to SCROLL to Recovery and VOL UP Key to select

Tip: If the device reboots, you may have waited to long to make a selection, you will need to begin the process again.

4. The device will display the Motorola logo and then the Android in distress ( logo with Exclamation mark)

5. Press and hold the VOL UP key for 10-15 seconds. While still holding the VOL UP key tap and release the POWER key

Tip: You can try this step, holding the phone in landscape. If you are stuck on step 6, try a force reboot by pressing the Power key and Vol Down key, and start the process again.

6. The device will display additional menu options (Text will appear in BLUE)

7. Use the VOL DOWN Key to scroll to wipe cache partition and the POWER Key to select this option

8. The device will then perform the partition wipe

9. The device will reboot and start the normal power up sequence

Please do NOT follow these silly instructions that motorola support gives. Theres absolutly no need to delete your data. There are notification light apps on google play. The way it works it, you get the notification for getting a message, not for voicemail. So for instance my provider sends me a message everytime someone leaves a voicemail, that message (sms) triggers the notification light.

I asked if I'd lose anything and she told me no. I didn't lose anything. After I did it it was still not working but now it seems to be working fine. I didn't do anything (else) to it. We did have an update yesterday or day before so I don't know if that had anything to do w/ it or not.

Thank you for your input! I appreciate it.

This probably depends on your carrier - mine does the same as Shmotog - I get an SMS from the carrier notifying me of new voicemail with a notification for the SMS, no specific voicemail notification.

Thanks neu smurph. My carrier is Boost Mobile and they don't do that as far as I know - I've only been w/ them not even a month. So far so good though on it working.

I have the Moto G on Aio. I think Aio has a Visual Voicemail App. But I was using Youmail prior to my Moto G switch... so I wanted that back. It seems to work fine for me with Youmail. It leaves a notification in the bar up top and makes the notification sound that I set it make in Youmail. There are various types of apps you could probably use. I don't even know how to access the stock Voicemail in the Moto G. :-\

No, it's not. I've just let this slide all these months but thought I'd revisit it and see if anyone had an ideas or fixes. I just have to go into the my VM and see if there are any there. I don't get notifications at all - no text msg, nothing at the top, etc.

Yes, it works for other things .. just not when I have a voicemail. It doesn't show an icon or anything at the top. I just have to check it from time to time to see if anyone has left a msg. It's not a huge deal, really, but just an annoyance.

UGH! Have had a similar issue. I have the Moto G for Republic Wireless (they use Sprint towers). I get notifications randomly but half the time none at all and they don't display. I literally have to call my number to hear the voice mails I missed and there was no record of them on my phone. Unfortunately one was for a job interview that was left a week and a half ago, frack. :/ Maybe need to just switch back to a land line with a voicemail recorder lol.

do you get an sms message in your SMS inbox when you get voicemail? the way voicemail notification works for me is through an sms that my provider sends me whenever i receieve a voicemail. therefore just like with any odd sms message, the notification light would light up, similarly it would if i get a voicemail sms message.

therefore the problem lies with your service provider whoever you are with. ask them to enable sms notifications for voicemail.

No, I don't get an sms. I have Boost Mobile. I might contact them. I've just never had a phone that didn't have an icon at that top when there's a vm. I could swear it was there at one time.

Re: Not getting notification when I have a voicemail on Moto G SOLUTION CRICKET AND MAYBE OTHERS

after calling your voicemail and reaching the main menu after all messages.
the second option is "change personal options". press suggested key or number.
the first option after that is:
"MESSAGE WAITING INDICATOR" will be noted and a prompt to turn it on. do what is suggested by prompt.
My Carrier is Cricket but I think this is the menu for the phone not the carrier.

this should do it for a cricket phone and maybe any carrier. Seems simple enuff but
after spending over an hour with cricket they basically said . go to the store where you bot it.
good luck hope this helps.
