Not getting SMS from iPhones

Been with the Note 8 since the 24th and I'm still not getting SMS messages from some apple devices. I'm signed out of iCloud on all devices.

Any way to fix that and unlink from Apple?

Do you get something back when you initiate the text?
I never logged out of cloud and the only thing that doesn't show up on my Note 8 is any sms/mms that i sent using my macbook or Apple Watch. Are the people sending you a text/mms using the old threads where you were conversing with them before? Also I think when they text you they should never see iMessage in the text field. I think non iPhone people show up in green in the text field and it just says text.

If you just signed off on a device, the iMessage account conversation with other iPhones would probably still be active with your Apple account, so you have to either deactivate iMessage completely or tell your iPhone friends to turn off iMessage conversations on your number (or just initiate a new thread via SMS, that should 'kick in' as well, but the first method of turning it off on your contact is better).

**THIS** I asked my parents to turn iMessage off and send me a text, and then asked them to turn it back on and it worked. SOrry you have to do this, but you only gotta do it once!

You need to ensure that you de-resgistered your number from iMessage. If you don't do this, it can take up to 30 days for imessage to figure out that you don't have an iPhone. Personally, I think that's BS because Apple doesn't want you to leave (they want you to get frustrated with other phones and go back to the iPhone).

Yeah I did that and it said that my number wasn't registered. Which is bull **** as I know for a fact I'm still not getting some messages

I love iPhones, but I LOATHE Apple for holding hostage people's text messages. Apple does this on purpose. I swear they do...

The only other thing i can suggest is to ask your main contacts to delete any threads they have with your number and start a new one. Also, if it your number still shows blue on their end, to long-press on the message and select "send as text message". They shouldn't have to do that everytime though.

This is what I did before switching to Note 8.

1. Turn off iMessage.
2. Turn off Facetime.
3. De-register my number at https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage

I then waited about 14 or so hours (let the servers catch up on Apple's side) and popped the SIM from my iPhone to Note 8. After that, I didn't have any issue with individual message; however, for group message, I had to have my friends delete the thread and start a new one. A couple of my friends had to delete my contact info and add again. It is a hassle but it has to be done.

The last time I switched to Note 4, I had forgotten to do these steps and I had lots of issues that never fully resolved. I ended up switching back to another iPhone few months later.

Yeah it seems to be group chats I'm having the most issues with. I don't have a problem with Apple. I too go back and forth between devices, but this is crap!

If it's a group chat that started on iMessage you will never get the messages on your phone unless the group is re-started in MMS form, unfortunately.

And that's what they want you to ultimately do.

It seems like the best thing to do if you plan to switch between Android and Apple devices is to never turn iMessage on in the first place. Just leave it off the whole time you use your iPhone or iOS device.

This is exactly true. Turning off iMessage and and signing out of your apple ID will ensure that you receive individual messages from iPhone users. However people that have group threads with your number in it will have to start a new thread as apparently the iPhone is not smart enough to change the group chat from imessage to SMS. I hate apple for this and pretty sure they do this on purpose. I've tried many times switching to Android and always go back because I wasnt receiving group messages. Now that I've figured it out theres no way that I'm going back to being an apple prisoner. Never turning on imessage again if I use an iPhone.

I switch ALL the time and never have any issues. If you're someone that frequently uses group messaging, that's usually why you would be having an issue. If the contact has your number in their address book as an iPhone, that would also cause an issue and the person would need to either delete the message thread, change the number classification, or reboot their phone.

That's actually not why it happens. Those group messages use iMessage protocols when you're using an iPhone, not MMS. (Non iPhones use MMS for group messaging) Because they work completely differently, there's no way for them to switch on the fly in an already established conversation.

I switch all the time too (well, not since my Note 8). And I'm talking as often a couple of times per week. And I have issues sometimes. Turning off iMessage on your phone just isn't enough in my case. I wouldn't receive messages from my iPhone friends days after I switched back to android. I would still show as being on my iPhone on a friend's phone so I wouldn't get messages. It's a hassle. So I just leave iMessage off.

You're right it is mms. But Apple needs to find a way for it to change just as it changes for individual texts. Individual texts go from imessage to sms. They should be able to change it from imessage to mms in group threads. I've seen when placing just 1 non apple number in a new group thread, the entire thread is in green (mms). When it is all iPhones the entire thread is blue (imessage). It should be that when one of those number goes android, windows, or turns imessage off, the entire thread switches to mms. But that is not what's happening. It stays on imessage thus you not receiving the texts.

It's a limitation of the messaging services (iMessage and sms/MMS) as they exist currently. It is nothing apple can fix on it's own. RCS could possibly fix it, but even then carriers are mucking it up with their own junk.

Rule of thumb is to always deregister iMessage through apple alongside disabling it on devices.

When my wife sends me a video from her iphone it splits the audio from the video, and just shows a still shot of the video. I have to swipe right and it shows the audio and I press play and can hear the sound. Just no video. Sucks!
