So: in this thread, we talk about lame 4G speeds.

They flipped the switch here about a week or two ago... no notice, very stealthy. Hell, I thought my phone was broken when 4G icon lit up... "wtf, I don't live in a 4G area"

Not a lot of coverage around town but maybe they are testing the water and it'll get better when (if?) they add more.

I'll be bailing this little podunk backwater burg in a few months... moving back to civilization (San Diego).

3g = 0.82 Mbps
4g = 8.18 Mbps
wifi = 17.32 Mbps (outside, getting the trash can from the curb, router in the bedroom)

you are complaining about 8mbps? Verizon advertises 5-12mbps down for 4glte. I have seen 4glte speeds way under 500kbps in fringe areas.

In Williston, ND, I travel there for work about 2-3 times a month, the average for me is about 4-5 Mpbs with really high latency and ping times... 3G would give about 300-600 Kbps.

So that 8 Mbps test (with 15 Mpbs upload!) looks pretty darn good!

I would test this some more at different times of the day, best to test early AM like 5-6 AM or even earlier and with a couple different servers, the closest one isn't always the fastest. Worst times to test here are 11:00am-1:30pm (Lunch) and 3:00pm-6:00pm (school gets out and end of work day).

I've never seen an upstream speed that much faster than a downstream speed.

Hmm, I was comparing this speed to others that you have postd, dpham00 -- high 20s mbps into the 50s mpbs... that was making 8 look pretty paltry. Thanks for the heads-up on Verizon's advertising -- I've had the phone since February but never looked at VZW's speed list because I didn't live in a 4G area.

Good idea... I'll get a sampling. Reason I called it out was because of the 30s, 40s and 50s Mbps in the other thread.

There are so many factors that determine speed, proximity to a tower, interference between you and tower, network load, and other things. Peak speeds may not be indicative of typical speeds. If you want to see high speeds, use an app like open signal maps to locate a tower, and find an unobstructed view of the tower. You may have to try a few towers and times, depending on network load.
