Not receiving sms messages

Need some help please.
I have Motorola XT910 and sw 4.0.4 ICS.
Problem with receiving normal sms messages. Friends call to ask whether I received the sms. I then shut down the phone and restart phone, then the sms's stream in. Some a day or two old.
I as habit reboot my phone twice a day to be sure I receive sms messages.
Phone was factory reset so many times I'm sick of setting up the phone and software reloaded / reinstalled to 404.
Can anyone help please

have you cheked with your carrier? because sometimes they delay your sms messages?
