Not responding to touch input

I’ve been experiencing this really annoying issue with my phone on occasion.

Randomly, when using it the screen will appear to stop responding to touch inputs. The phone itself doesn’t freeze - so if watching a video for example, this continues, but nothing responds to any touch or gestures with my fingers (including Android navigation). The only way to get it to respond is to press the power button to lock the phone, then unlock it again.

This happens in any app, including the home screen, browsers, settings etc.

It also seems to get a bit more frequent over time – say weeks or months.

In the past I’ve factory reset the phone and this has resolved it, but it’s happening again now.
It may be an app causing it, but it’s hard to pin down which one.

I have rebooted the phone every week or so.

Has anyone come across this before?

Any screen protector on? How often does it happen? If it's fairly frequent, see if it also happens in Safe Mode: https://www.hardreset.info/devices/sony/sony-xperia-xz2-compact/safe-mode/. If it goes away in Safe Mode, then some app you installed is the culprit. If it still happens in Safe Mode, then it's a system or hardware issue.

Thanks, no screen protector. If happens sporadically - sometimes a few times a day, then not for a few days, then a few times in a row, or every few hours, then nothing for a day or it might do it again more frequently. It's at least weekly.

Definitely try safe mode see if your experience is the same .
