So I went to my AT&T store expecting it to be available or back ordered and on display. I was told by sales rep that they had received an email from corporate and that the phone would not be available in my area via at&t brick and mortar store. I could order it online and they referred me to best buy across the street to see it???

Anybody have a reason why they would do that?

I live in Palmdale/Lancaster CA....I have not checked other stores in the area yet but?

Same up in the Bay area. I have no idea why. I had to go to Radioshack to scoop up the last they had in stock.

Sorry, just answered my own ? And I guess it is a NO.
Really puzzling on the lack of support. Should be a flagship device

From what I was told at my local AT&T store when I walked in at opening was the same thing and said it had to do with their contract with Apple and the whole patent lawsuit going on. Had ordered it online at the store and they said it was showing 2-3 weeks and couldn't guarantee that it would be shipped if more progress was made in the lawsuit. I ended up going to Best Buy snapped up their last one and cancelled my online order. What a mess. Absolutely love this phone. Totally puts my iPhone 4 to shame, which will be for sale soon. I back to Android after a short stint a year and a half ago and now back for good.

The AT&T SGSII is NOT an LTE phone. It's HSPA+. And my friend that works at an AT&T Corp. Store also said that no stores will be getting the phone any time soon. I ordered mine from wireless.att.com, mainly because I didn't want to run in to any issues keeping my unlimited data.

AT&T told me that, they believed the stores weren't going to carry it in-house because of the Apple lawsuit, but even they found it odd that it could be purchased online, just not in-store. It sounds to me as if they agreed with Apple not to 'actively' sell it but, if people run across it online, they can pick it up without any help from AT&T.

I think Apple has a stranglehold on retailers because it's the best selling phone, at least up to now.
