Notch defense articles are grasping at straws....

Yup, and he makes the wrong assumption about being able to cover the sensors and lenses. If he would have done his homework, he would see that glass screen protectors have a NOTCH cut out for them.

I didn't read it the same way as you did. I thought he meant that screen protectors wouldn't have to have holes for lenses and sensors. That would not be true though on full coverage protectors..

I won't defend it but I also won't jump on the "I hate notch" bandwagon. People flipped about the iPhone X as well and swore they would never!... yet Apple sales show otherwise :).

Some people jump on the media train. I say look at it and decide for yourself. If you hate it then don't buy it. I personally will most likely still buy it since I did get to use an iPhone X and TBH I never noticed the notch unless I specifically looked for it. After the day or two of adjusting my mind just forgot about it.

I have 2 iPhone X's in the family so I occasionally have to use it. Not a big deal for me.

notch is not a issue if done right, only phone I liked with bezel is iPhone or htc m8 ..not liking bottom bezel on pix 3 but understand it's for the speakers but still lol

While I'm not considering the XL model (I prefer the smaller model), the notch really doesn't bother me. When I saw the most recent leak on the subway, I noticed something. To me, it looks like the area containing the notch and the notification bar appears to be the same size as the bezel on the 2XL. So for the 3XL, it seems they've removed 1/3 of the top bezel on either side and moved the notification bar(s) to that space.

You might not agree with me, I don't really care. The longer I'm on the internet, the more I realize that no matter what you do, you'll never please everyone, andany times, anyone.

I agree - I just don't get the flaming passion about the notch. A place for camera and sensor is required until/if a way can be found to put them under the screen. And, I like the front facing speakers.

Folks get sooooo crazed about foreheads, chins, notches on their phones.... definitely 1st world concerns, huh?

Bah... I struggle to understand the outrage. People seem to get so heated and have so much to say about a device that 90% of them aren't even considering buying in the first place.

I agree on all counts. I do understand when someone is disappointed by a feature they see added, changed or removed on a phone they intend to buy, but at some point each individual needs to let go and decide if it's right for them.

Yup.... I have no intentions of buying from most of the major players in the business but I refuse to rag on a phone I don't like. I may have done that in the past but now I avoid it. I will point out features I don't like but I will never call a phone garbage or whatever colorful metaphor comes to mind.

I dont agree and you will care!!! LOL

That's a very weak article. The notch is fine because screen protectors will be better, really?

I see his point about the holes assuming he's correct about full adhesive protectors being one solid piece of glass with just a cutout for the notch.

Where he fails is that protectors that are only partial adhesive will still require holes.
I don't think he was trying to make a strong argument but trying to soften the blow. Was the article worth the effort? Probably not, but that's true about a lot of articles.

Here's an article on LG's V40. They're doing the same thing I described in my last post. The only difference between the 3XL and the V40 is that the notification bar is black on the V40 giving it the appearance of a bezel rather than a notch with a notification bar on either side. So if Google were to change the color of their notification bar to black, it would look the same.
