without prompting me or giving me a warning.

I was playing the mp3's on my phone while I was getting ready for work without issues. I placed my phone on the charger in my card and made my 30 minute drive to work listening to SiriusXM in my car. I get to work connect my Bluetooth speaker to my phone. Tried to select my play list for work and it was gone. I went into "my folders" and notice everything is gone pictures, music, videos, and downloads. The SD File structure was there. Rebooted phone and still nothing. I was able to view the SD card without any error messages on my PC or Laptop, both show 117GB available.

Try doing a scan /repair in windows 10 (right click sd card drive, click properties, then tools on your windows PC and see if that helps.

It's also possible the card itself failed, and nothing to do with the phone. Hopefully your data was banned up or you can recover it from the card.

I'm sure the card failed, this is how it happens, when it happens, unfortunately. The fact that you could see the directory structure you had, doesn't say anything.
Try using a recovery program, like Sandisk's RescuePro or Deluxe for PC. If you want to have any chance to recover anything from your SD card, then don't try to write anything on the card before you try to recover your data.
As it is now, it is possible that the data is still on the card, undamaged, and only the file allocation table was damaged. With a little luck, the recovery program might be able to reconstruct it.

You could also try chkdsk on Windows: http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...guide-using-chkdsk-fix-corrupted-sd-card.html.

This is a good object lesson on the unreliability of SD cards, and how you should never rely on them to be the sole storage for important information. Hopefully all you lost was music that you still have in another location.
I have not had an SD card fail for several years. In the past when I had problems the symptoms were the same as described. I never lost any files, I could read the card on my PC with a card reader. All the data was still accessible by my computer. The phone could not access the data. The card became read-only.

To the OP, take the card out of the phone and use a good card reader to see if the data is still on the card.

I am a big user of SD cards, butblike B.Diddy says, always have them automatically synced for data you care about, like pictures.

Another thing is to make sure you Unmount a card before removing it from the phone -- the Unmount option should be in the Settings>Storage menu. Removing a card without unmounting it increases the risk of data corruption if the phone was in the middle of a read/write operation at the time of the card removal.

Thank you for all the suggestions.

I pulled the card out and haven't tried anything as of yet, just replaced it with another. Everything of importance is backup, but a lot of my MP3 were not. I just have to rip them again from the CD.

I can honestly say this is my first time I an SD has failed me. I have a few that are almost 20 years old, but nothing important go on those just in case ;)

Check the SD Card in your computer. Good chance you will find your MP3s.
