Note 2 email/browser brightness very low

Does anyone know why the email program and browser that comes with the Note 2 dims very very low brightness when you go into the program?

All my other programs regardless if I have the settings to automotic brightness or not work perfectly, yet whenever I go into these two programs it dims so low I can't see anything.
