Note 20 Ultra gets HOT!

My phone gets exceptionally hot. I had the same problem with my Note 9 a couple years ago. Graduated to the Note 10+ which stayed so much cooler even under heavy use. The 20 Ultra is almost as hot as my old Note 9. I live in a hot climate so having a hot phone is very uncomfortable to hold.

Anyone else experiencing this? Perhaps there are settings I can change to cool it down. Battery life is also less than my Note 10+. I'd say about 20% less screen time.

Exynos or Snapdragon handset?
If its Exynos then there are going to be heat issues under load which have been well documented recently. It may even be a rogue app, sometimes it is best to do the initial phone setup from scratch and not using tools like Samsung Smart Switch because any current issues you may be experiencing may be brought on to your new phone.

If you only just started using it less than a week ago, it's probably about right it would be about 20% less than the Note 10 plus, it will get better in a couple of days.
What case are you using, can heat escape from it properly?

Thanks for the replies. Snapdragon unit. I did a clean switch and I'm using the same type of Spigen case I used on my Note 10+. I don't get the "system overload" message like I used to on occasion when apps went rogue. It just seems to run much hotter than my 10+. I'll give it a few more days of use to see if it improves.

All Phones get a bit Warm when charging doesn't matter what type of phone it is, That is normal, But noway has my Note20 Ultra or any Samsung phone i have had get hot, Don't get why people get confused with hot and warm big difference.

Now if it gets really hot then most likely you have a defected phone.

I would run a app just to monitor actual temp and battery so that there’s some quantitative number to warm can hot.

Some wireless chargers are better than others and can change, or cable + adapter combo.

Are you charging more often seeing how battery % drops more?

It sounds like there may be two methods that they have implemented for heat rejection. A heat pipe would act as both a sink and spread the heat energy. This would help to keep the phone surface temperature down as it would spread the energy throughout the sink and dissipation would occur over a wider area as well so surface temperature would be lower. Whereas a graphite pad will really only bring heat energy up to the surface. I don't think it will have much sink capacity so the temperature is going to depend quite a bit on the rejection rate on the surface of the phone where the pad is and how much heat energy the cpu is putting out. So basically, it is possible any versions with the graphite pad may feel hotter than if a heat tube was used. Doesn't necessarily mean the cpu is running hotter or out of specifications though.

I will add that my phone has been running quite cool.

I always elimate anything not needed running in the background and I always reboot my device twice a week to keep it running great and never a hot battery. Last hot battery I couldn't fix was the S7 edge.

Mine just got hot out of the blue this afternoon. I was just checking some email and that sucker got pretty hot for no reason at all.

Hope it's not another Note 7 dumpster fire.

I knew it wouldn't be long until someone brought this up. Electronics make heat. No issues with mine. Got a little warm during the smart switch process. Normal to me.

I haven't run into this , maybe monitor in safe mode to rule out any 3rd party apps

Mine also got hot but it was what looks to he searching for service. I got the no network connection message. It was on the edge of my wifi area.

It's only considered HOT if you can make tea on it, anything else is just warm :-)

Last time I bought 2 phones at the same time was the Note 7, hope I didn't bring bad luck. Our phones haven't felt that warm. We aren't gamers or power users though.
