note 2014 shuts down when USB is plugged in

this started a couple of days ago. When I plug in the USB cable, the tablet shuts down. When I restarting the tablet, I have to use the power and volume down key and not select the custom OS. Additionally, the charger icon does not show the charging icon. However, when I am using with the USB plugged in, it does charge, even though the charging is not shown on the charging icon. I did a factory reset on the machine. This did not help.any thoughts? It is 13 months old. Thank you in advance for your help.

Welcome to the forums. I have heard of this issue before, but I can't remember if or what the solution was. Have you contacted Samsung? I am guessing that this should be covered under warranty.

The warranty is void after 12 months. And said tablet is rooted since he has a custom ROM on it which would also void the warranty.

Have you tried different USB cable? Sounds like either cable (plug) issue or USB socket on tablet...

I manage to do something goofy (don't know what) when plugging in USB cable and it shut down tab, but it only happened to me once in the year I have used/owned it...

Somehow skipped over that he had it for 13 months. My fault.

Thanks all for the reply. It's not a custom OS, it just wants me to select one. I've tried multiple cables with minimal differences in the results. I'm suspecting it is a bad USB port.it is charging, just not showing it charging. Shame it's a month out of warranty...
