Note 3 still going strong!

My guess is two years before any apps that matter aren't supported; or longer.

OMG I hope that's not gonna happen! I bought my Note 3 in summer 2017, my 1st smartphone. I was using a flip phone and a Palm E2/T5! Lots of research to find a phone that HAD to have: stylus, micro SD, and removable battery. (optional was a screen big enough to watch anime, etc.) Spending spree: like new Note3 on Amazon for $150, a battery pkg (2 new batteries and a battery wall charger) for $40? (=rotate/backup) And a case for $10. Staying WAY behind technology saves a ridiculous amount of money! I see most "new tech" as toys. I would never spend that much for a "cool toy." Now I'm "upgrading" it with a factory pink back cover and pink stylus = less than $10 total... NOW it looks like a toy! haha
(I plan on using the Note3 till the wheels come off)

Well after 5 years today the first app to have a popup sign saying it will not work with my version of android I have, V5.0

I know this day would come..... what to do? Not only that but the case I use is not made any more and all there is is after market clones that suck. I hate the sizes of the Note 8/9 narrow and long! I am going to have to figure this out...maybe unlock my note 3 and install a rom?

I personally don't have a note 3 but my gf does and she absolutely loves it. She got her note3 I think it was in 2014 and she said that it was the best investment in all the phones she had ever bought but now things are not wanting to work right on her phone it says that her phone isn't compatible or something like that and she's never had any problems before with anything. Her's still looks like new. She hasn't even had to replace the battery yet (knock on wood lol). But she's looked and looked trying to find another phone that would come close to the note 3 and she's had no luck in that at all. She don't like the newer notes she don't like the way there skinny and long she just don't like anything about them. She just wants to keep her phone and update the operating system somehow. Is that even possible? Is there away to update your operating system or is there a newer phone out there with the same similarities as the note 3 at all? Can/is there somebody anybody at all that can please help her/us out with this. Thank you it would really be much appreciated.

The LGV20 has most of the Note 3 features and has Oreo so should be good for a couple of years. It is no longer available new but Swappa has used ones cheap. It has the normal 16/9 ratio the Note 3 has and an ir blaster like Note 3. It's why I bought it when my Note 7 had to go back. I wish they sold refurb Note 7 in USA.

I'm so happy I found this thread.
I had a Galaxy Note 3 Neo DUOS (N7502) and I loved it, I love devices with pens since the Palm III and the ipaq.
But the Note 3 neo it was a disaster. Stuck at android 4.3, with no custom roms, and many apps weren's compatible anymore.
Most notably ONENOTE, the app I use the most.
I gave up trying to update it and ended up selling it cheap last year. Got a Moto G.
Now I was just selling a very old laptop (2012 I think) for a few bucks and someone offered me a Note 3 N9005 in trade.
It was one of best deals I ever made. I love the Note 3, even now in 2019. I'm using it with Lollipop, 5.0, but I'm thinking about choosing a nice custom ROM.

I'm selling my moto G. :D

@Shell913:

There are several custom ROMS that you can "flash" into the Galaxy Note 3. Not a simple process for some users (non-geeks) but you can read something about those. I always look into the XDA developers forums.
I just got a Note 3 as a trade, and I'm planning to install some version of Android 7, 8 or 9. I'm researching what would be the best one right now.

Still rocking my Note 3, but think I am finally going to upgrade to an S10+. My Note 3 still works fine other then the fact I just recently noticed my screen is de-gluing (if thats a word) from the phone.

Well it is Sept 2019 and my Note 3 is still going strong. My phone is now 6 years old and on its 4th battery, 2nd S-Pen and 6th Otterbox Defender case. Otterbox does not make the case anymore so I have been getting a great clone off of Amazon and actually think they are better as the rubber is more durable and has a tighter fit, they run about $6.00

So far I have had about 3 apps stop working but it's no problem I just goto the website for them.

The phone works as good as it did the 1st day I got it, it been in a case all the time and is in perfect condition but for some of the chrome coming of the bezel.

I do not like the how tall and slender the cellphones are getting so I will keep using my Note 3 and it's good to know the Android OS 5.1 still has over 11% OS share.

I will not jail break the phone and install ROM's because they do not run everything on the phone and they can have viruses.

I think this phone will stay with me another couple years, I run my whole business off it.

Galaxy Note 3 still going strong in 2019 going into 2020
