Note 4 Preordering with Amazon

I'm currently a Sprint customer but my 2-year contract expired this past June. I want to preorder the Note 4 and set up an AT&T plan through Amazon. If I preorder now (which requires setting up the plan) will my Sprint service be affected before the phone arrives and I activate it? Has someone had a similar situation?

I would say just get a new number then port your number over later.

I'm switching from Sprint to T-Mobile. I pre-ordered the Note 4 and plan but will wait to activate and port my number when I receive the phone. Seems like it would work the same from Amazon.
