Note 5 power button Fried. Need a way to turn on

Hi there,
While replacing my LCD I fried the mother board power button pin. I worked for about a week then stopped. When the phone died I have no way of turning it on. The screen 100% works . I tried all types of cominations of plugging my phone in while pushing buttons etc and nothing. Does anyone know a way I can turn it on. Also. How abou getting everything off the phone and buying a new mother board??

What do you mean by "Fried the motherboard power button pin?" I can't help you unless I know what you mean.

When I replaced the screen I used the two tips of the tweezers to touch the 2 pins where the power button strip meets the circuit board. right there it shorted and there is a black mark on the board where it burned up. Does that make sense?

Yeah, you destroyed that part of the board. Let me explain how I think this happened. The button is a DPST, NO, non-sticky, press switch. Think of it as two switches in one, but they both have the same boolean state (That is, both are on, or both are off. You cannot have a situation where one is on and one is off). Now, imagine this: Your phone's battery goes direct to the power button, along with other components. When you press the button, two connections are completed, allowing energy to flow to the component's control leads. It is really much more complicated, but this is a simple explanation. Two paths are needed, because some components are active low (they turn on when a certain lead is grounded), and others are active high (they turn on when a certain lead is connected to VCC). Your motherboard burned because you shorted out the anode and cathode wires and caused a dangerously high amount of current. Your phone isn't going to turn on again. And you are lucky it did not explode. Next time, use plastic or wooden tools, remove the battery as soon as you can, and never mess with any irrelevant component.

Absolutely you can power up the phone by pairing another pin from the board with one of the power button pins and continue your work. and ignore the last answer from the guy whose IQ is smaller then his shoe size who tells you to stay away from the phone, it will explode etc.

That part of the board by the way is not fried, just burned the trace to the capacitor from the pin.

You can simply short the "Volume down button pin" (or Volume up button pin) with one of the power button pins, this will give the required signal to the phone as mimicking the power button was pressed. Tested and posting here.

Check the picture, I marked the pins. A tweezers will not be enough to reach from power pins area to up down button pins area. You can simply use a paperclip by bending out into a U shaped form.


Sorry I am a bit late on the answer but I hope others who short circuits the power pin accidentally with the ground can use this info.
