Note 8 - after taking phone off silence all notifications sounds play at once

After the latest updates to my Note 8, one of the many annoyances is when my phone goes off silence (either by schedule or manual) it plays all the notification sounds that were muted during that time. So if I got 100 emails and 100 texts before 9am - at 9am when my phone comes off silence it plays a notification 200 times! Can anyone help? I dont see a setting that can fix this.
