Note 8 freezing with HDMI adaptor

I purchased a Samsung HDMI adaptor for my note8. Every now and then when I stream movies, my phone literally freezes. It won't shut down either. It will usually shut down by itself after around five minutes. When it starts back up, it will once again freez on the lock screen and I will have to repeat the process. It may take up to half an hour before my phone is in a usable state.
It usually happens when I skip, pause, rewind, fast forward content. It will also not allow me to bluetooth audio when connected to HDMI. Has anyone experienced this same problem?

I bought a generic hdmi cable for my note 8 and when connected it would reboot the phone every time..sent it back and bought the dex instead..much better..
