I have a Note 8 that I love. But I got another one in Orchid Grey when At&T had the buy one get one free promotion last month, I haven't opened it yet. Was thinking of selling or trading for the Pixel2 XL.

I know its not compatible with Verizon and it is currently locked to At&T, but would anyone be interested in trading? Technically it is a financed (EIP) phone, but because it is the free phone in the buy one get one free offer, each month there is a charge that is immediately credited (on the same bill) from At&T, so that I don't pay anything for the second device (I did pay the sales tax on the full purchase price ($949).

As long as he continues to make payment... not sure I would call it a scam, but morally it should be paid off before you sell it.

In order to give it to someone else you need to pay off the phone. It’s really a scam if you don’t plan on keeping that phone for 30 months...2.5 years

How do you pay off a free phone? This phone was part of a buy one get one free promotion - so I don't actually make payments on it.

I agree that the terms of the promotion actually do seem to tie it to my account for 30 months. When I was at the store, I initially asked the att salesman if I could sell the second device - his response was "you can do anything you want with it". Apparently not - it cannot be traded it sold. It will sit unopened in my desk drawer for 30 months!

The phone is say $800 when you finance it. You are charged for it each month on your bill, but At&T gives you a credit each month. So essentially once the 30th month comes you had a free phone. If you decide to sell it three months in, you will have a balance to pay off on the phone and At&T will not give you the credits anymore.

If you are trying to sell or trade, that needs to be done in the marketplace and the phone must be fully paid off in order to list it there.
