Note 8 Security Patch just downloaded (Canada - Virgin Mobile)

I am on Virgin Mobile in Canada and just got security patch update that says October 1, 2017.

Hope so! This morning I happened to see a tiny number 1 on top of the the settings icon, and voila there it was.

i always disable the security updates. not sure why you guys want it soo bad? i have never had any problems since note 4.

To be honest, for the average person just connecting to their home WI-FI or just going about their day as normal. You probably won't ever have a problem and there isn't really a need to worry. It's only when someone is trying to specifically gain control of your device that there will be a problem because Android has many loop holes that are being found out each year. Here are 2 examples of recent ones.

1. KRACK - WPA2 Wi-Fi vulnerability
2. Blueborne - Bluetooth vulnerability

My dad has been using a very old Android device from around 2012 and he has been perfectly fine but its just for those odd occasions that its nice to have the latest patches.

Global criminal organizations are increasingly carrying out attacks that automatically penetrate millions of devices that have unpatched vulnerabilities, potentially harvesting identities and passwords, taking and/or uploading photographs, collecting and/or sending emails and texts, etc. Since the attacks are mass-produced, you don't have to be individually targeted.

There are vulnerabilities that allow your device to be taken over even with no action on your part--you don't necessarily have to visit a malicious website or whatever. The Blueborne flaw, for example, lets your phone be infected if your phone merely passes near another device that's been infected.

I'm on a Rogers device in Canada. Just checked for update and a 428 Meg update is downloading. Yikes that's big.

I just checked for the hell of it and got a "Configuration Update" downloaded.
Is that a network-related tweak from the carrier?
