Note 8 video gets choppy after a 2-3 weeks of use

I've noticed that my note 8 on verizon has choppy video on YouTube and the watchespn app after 2-3 or more weeks of the phone being on without any shut down or restarts. But after I restart the phone the choppy video goes away. But then again after 2-3 weeks it occurs again. A related issue is the stock gallery app has stuttering while opening pictures, but will be smooth after a restart. This has happened at least twice since I got the phone back in October.

Does anyone know what the issue is and how I can resolve this without having to restart the phone? I don't recall my galaxy s5 having this issue, but I had that phone rooted with cm13.

I have not encountered that problem and don’t have any advice, but I am impressed that you go 2-3 weeks without restarting your phone. I can honestly say that regardless of the phone I’m using, I’ve never gone that long without a restart for one reason or another. I just find general performance on most phones is improved with a restart about once a week at least. Good luck with a solution to your issue.

not to be snarky, but you found the solution. just restart it once a week.

you can even set it to restart automatically once a week so you don't even have to thonk about it

I agree. So a couple of things I'd like to add... My Note 8 is on Verizon, I restart my device every morning, I have had this device since September and I've never noticed any slow down, stuttering, or ill behavior in general. It has ran buttery smooth since I got it.

Verizon removes the auto restart option which makes no sense except Verizon likes to show they have control, but with that said it's not that hard to restart the phone yourself.

These phones are like computers, they need a restart here and there. The solution for the OP, restart your phone once a week. There's nothing wrong with the phone, human error on this one.

So they removed the power button?
Now don't be silly, my reply was to a comment that other Note 8 carriers phones allows you to schedule a reboot. As far as me, I just manually reboot the device every day.

I get a notification on my Verizon Note 8 if it's been 7 days since the last restart.

well at least them eejits had the sense to put that into place after stripping their customers of so much other good stuff

Does anyone know why these issues occur over time? Does anyone know if the pixel 2 xl or LG V30 behave similarly if they haven't been restarted for a couple weeks?

With a phone this powerful, it seems like these issue shouldn't occur. Like I said, I don't recall having an issue like this with my galaxy s5 on cm13.

It happens to every Android phone. Android needs to be restarted at least twice a month. A 30 second restart saves a lot of headaches.

I was purposely being silly. I figured you responded to me by mistake. The ability to use inflection in text is lacking.

I have the exact same issue but for me it happens almost exactly after about 10 days of uptime (240 hrs). Maybe we share a common app that is causing this? Also do you run at 1080p or Max res? I run at Max res. I've been trying to figure out what causes it but so far haven't had any luck.

How did you calculate your up time when the issue occurred?

I run at max res

Not sure what the issue is, but personally I haven't left a phone, tablet, or computer on for 2 or 3 weeks straight in over a decade. Be it Windows, Android, or Linux every system I've run seems to benefit from being restarted.

Hi. I'm on Verizon as well. How do you set it up to get that notification? Course I probably wouldn't get that notification cause I restart once a day or every other day lol.
