To all android central admins. Please create a forum category for this new phone and a sticky post with this topic. It would also be perfect if your reviewers cover this as I am seeing a lot of users complaining about bad quality control on the units shipped.
Main issues reported are:
  • Display green tint.
  • Dead pixels
  • Moisture on the backside near the camera module
  • Software bugs
  • Their after-sales support not responding to any of the contact methods: email, website form, twitter.

Thanks.

Welcome to Android Central! I moved this from the General News forum to the Site Feedback forum.

This doesn't sound very promising.

Bad news often runs faster than good. Same can apply to phone reviews. Even Samsung goes through this and they are established. I'm not saying the forum should not be created, but trying to show a different lens.

Welcome to AC!

Where's links from media/users to back up your claim?

I've been following the Nothing phone from the beginning and I'm in some groups where many members already received it, so I can give you some information about your claims.

- Green tint is an issue that can affect all OLED panels and we have seen similar reports with models from Samsung, OnePlus, Pixel, OPPO, you name it. In most cases is only visible under extreme conditions (low ambient light and very low brightness) and the user can't notice it at all. As always, the problem is how severe this tint is and if it affects the normal use of the phone.
- As far as I know there's only one report of moisture trapped inside, an user from India. There's no record of what happened with that device before having the problem. This incident has been replicated in different platforms as it was a widespread problem, which is not. Similar thing happened with the dead pixels around the punch hole.
- Don't get me wrong, any phone release will send defective units to the clients. This is unfortunate but it's a fact. The problem is making an unfortunate anecdote sound like a widespread problem.
- I haven't seen any report of serious bugs in the OS. Some minor bugs are expected in the first system version of a new phone from a new company. All users reviews I've seen (from professionals and "real" people) say that the system is very quick, stable and fluid. Two system updates were ready when people fired the phone for the first time and three more are coming in the next couple of weeks.

By the way, do you have the Nothing phone in your hands and is it having all these problems that you are reporting?

Hi.
Considering the low amount of available devices to be sold, such issues are not acceptable. They have emphasized the quality control on these devices so much and tbh it has not proven that good so far.
Proof? Sure, their support twitter page:
https://twitter.com/nothingsupport/with_replies
And no, I do not have the phone because I do not purchase a device from a new company among the first, and I was right to cancel my order. Btw, I had to phone call them to get my refund because their customer support is not responding to emails.
I do not rely on reviewers only, let's be serious about it. Sure, they do a great job, but as important are users' complains once they receive the device.
Just about one of the issues: Green tint. No, not all OLEDs have that problem. Besides Samsung once and of course, Oneplus (Carl's previous company, when he tried to minimize the fault), I have not seen a mass complain from anyone else. Again, quality control missed here.

My point with the forum section for this phone and this topic was not to rant, but to have a place in a respectable forum for users to discuss these problems and others that may arise. The fact that reviewers have not found any issues, well, let's say I would make sure reviewers get a proper quality controlled device too if I was a CEO of a phone company...just sayin'

@bysvindal: Please do not take offence. Neither I nor I think anyone else is suggesting that you are making false claims but, at present, we have no way of knowing whether posts to be seen online are trustworthy or typical. We have a responsibility to stand back and withhold judgment for a while until the phone has become more widespread and users' feedback becomes more trustworthy.

You are very welcome as a new member! To create a new subforum for the device is certainly a good idea.

I think you didn't read what I posted about the green tint and other issues. The same kind of reports comes with every brand using OLED panels. Please, Google for "OnePlus/Samsung/OPPO/Xiaomi/iPhone green tint" and you'll see what I mean.

And you lost me here. You said "... no, I do not have the phone because I do not purchase a device from a new company among the first, and I was right to cancel my order. Btw, I had to phone call them to get my refund ...". It sounds a bit contradictory and, most importantly, it seems that after having second thoughts you got your refund.

Thanks for the links @mustang7757.

As far as the design, its refreshingly new though not necessarily something I would be interested in.
Specs are average. Nothing wrong with that.
Performance seems to match the specs so that's good.
The best thing it has going for it, in my opinion, is the vanilla os. Not having bloatware and all the other junk is quite nice.

Does it need refining? Sure it does but that's to be expected. I certainly hope it sells well and they continue to produce phones. Competition is always a good thing for consumers.

It's OnePlus all over again.
That's true in some sense. Well, Carl Pei was co-founder of OnePlus and left the company to create Nothing. There are some differences, though. OnePlus focused mostly in having few devices with flagship SoC, excellent software and low(ish) prices. It worked great, for a while, until they decided to change their original philosophy (and Pei left).

Nothing is more focused in design, novelty and top mid-ranger hardware to still have a low(ish) price. They still keep the same idea of having a quick, fluid, almost vanilla OS. Oh, and the hype, of course.

I consider a purchase a complete transaction keeping the device, sorry for the confusion. I did request a refund, but struggled to reach them and I would've still be waiting for their support to get back via the email channel if it wasn't for the phone number they have in a couple of countries in Europe.

Yeah exactly. I like oneplus, I have one and it's the best phone I've ever had. I've had 2 of them now. A cheaper phone that performed with the rest, minus a few options, was cool and made me like what the company was about. So im a little butt hurt feeling like they turned their back on that, but I get it. Everything is about money.

Same here. After my OP 7 I'm not considering buying that brand in the next future. I'm quite interested in this Nothing phone and there's a big chance I'll buy it in a couple of months. I'll see how it really performs first and then decide.

I agree with Javi on1+ I have 2 1+7 different edition and won't be buying from them again until they go back to being 1+ otherwise I have my others Samsung/Google/Apple

I have an 8t and I love it. Custom rom makes all the difference.
