Nothing shows when connected to desktop

When the phone is connected to the desktop using windows 10 the phone is viable however when I click on it the window shows as empty. How do I access the files and folders on the phone?

Are you swiping down the Notification tray on the phone and selecting File Transfer mode? By default, Android will connect as "Charging Only" until you change options.
