Notification badges on Huawei P20

I'm trying to get notification count badges for all apps, not just the limited list that is offered. I also want them to stay after I've cleared the status bar. This used to work on my Samsung with Nova Launcher, but on my Huawei P20 Pro. It doesn't work and I really miss this.
Any ideas? Thanks

Welcome to Android Central! Just to clarify, are you using Nova on your P20 Pro as well, or is it EMUI? If it's EMUI 9, my understanding is that it prevents 3rd party launchers now.:-\

It's Emui 9. Nova works, except for the notifications.

And you're using the TeslaUnread add-on for Nova?

I'm using two 3rd party launchers on EMUI 9 (one for the main, the other for the private).

Did you try changing Settings>Notifications>App Icons Badges>Display Mode?

Or open your Nova Settings, tap Notification Badges, and double check that the style chosen is something besides "None."

As for the default launcher (on almost all phones and tablets) the badges in Pie are now a count of the notifications still left to read, not the number of calls, texts, emails, etc. Complain to Google if you don't like it. (I haven't heard anyone say they did.)

Thanks all. It's not solved yet. I'll keep trying. @Rukbat: you make it sound like I'm complaining to you in person. I'm just looking to restore a functionality that I really liked.

I thought the unread count badges have always been the unread count, not the total count.

It's literally the worst idea ever!!!
literally who in their right mind doesn't want to know how many messages they have left to reply to?? It's just ridiculous.
I'm now struggling to use my S8 as a business phone ever since oreo removed the unread badge count. As much as it pains me to admit defeat, I have moved from Apple to android with a Galaxy S8 on 7.0 Nougat (best phone I've ever had) to a brick on 8.0 oreo and 9.0 pie.
I've been using Nova Launcher and Tesla unread successfully through 8.0 but now 9.0 has been introduced Tesla unread will not work for my emails (great...)
They are phasing out Tesla unread so will not be fixing any issues.
Nova launcher 6.1 Beta version is not quite there yet regarding unread notifications...
So I'm torn between patiently waiting out the last 5 MONTHS of my contract to make my decision or going back to Apple and just buying a handset sim free.
