Notification icons

Does anyone know if O will allow other colors for notification icons (how it was before they made them all white)? TIA

It has a themeing engine (not used at least for now), but other than rooting or if the app supports changing it (like Textra, which allows changing the notification icon color), nope.

Thanks, that was my favorite part of android. I do use Textra but I prefer a text app w themes. I read the article, didn't understand any of it.

Haha, it's OK. Basically it says that a (limited) themeing engine is in the code on O previews, but it's not active, so it will likely not make it 'live' when the final version rolls out. But even if it did, it will be a limited resource. For full-on themeing, you would need to root or have the app support custom notification icons.

Thanks spooksdavid. Any idea why some apps can do it but others don't. I know it's a minor gripe and silly to some but again it was my fav feature.

All apps can, but not all app devs see the benefit of 'spending time' adding that into their apps. It's really up to each developer to decide if that's a feature they want to include with their apps.
