notification issues with lollipop

I recently got the update to lollipop from my carrier (kinda regret it now) and I've been having issues with the screen not turning off when I receive a notification. Even when I turn off showing notifications on lock screen when I receive a text it still turns the screen on. Is there anyway anyone knows of to just completely disable the screen from turning on. I know I could before but now I can't find it

try go to settings>sounds and notifications>scroll all the way down click on' while locked' and choose your prefrences

Yea I originally did that but the screen still turned on when I received texts. The other issue is when I turn the screen on manually it doesn't show anything in the notification bar or anywhere until I unlock the phone
