Notification not working

My notifications are not working when phone sleeps??

Welcome to Android Central! Any power-saving modes turned on? Do you have Restrict Background Data or Data Saver turned on in Settings>Data Usage​?

What if you boot into Safe Mode? https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-36242. You'll only be able to test preinstalled apps, but it should help you narrow things down to something you installed vs the system itself.

The problem I am facing is that it is intermittent.
I just did a test by entering a calendar event for 10 mins later, I put the phone to sleep and unplugged the charger and it worked.
Trouble is I have an 8.30pm daily reminder that the last two night have not worked until I picked up the phone and woke it, the alarm then went off 10 mins late.

A well hidden area but I have been in there and all is ok. I haven't had an issue for a day or so and I think it may be when I turn on my vpn but need to test that more.
