Notification sound but nothing else

About a week ago(?), my Droid DNA (latest fw) started "randomly" playing the Notification Sound I have set for it. Nothing else displays on the screen - no other indication of what is happening. Rebooting doesn't solve the problem. I am on vacation, out of state right now, but I'm not roaming or anything (I think...). Has anyone else experienced this? I have no idea how to troubleshoot this. It's not awful, but it is a bit annoying. Suggestions?

Mine does this if I am in a spotty coverage area when it reaquires the signal. If you are on the edge of a coverage area, this may be the reason.
