Notification sound not changing?

I have a s20 FE. I am trying to change the notification sound for specific apps. I know how to find and change the notification settings in the app, but even though it shows that I have changed the sound on the menu, the phone still plays the default notification sound selected in the general notification settings for the whole phone. Has anybody else had this problem or have any thoughts on why the new notification setting does not take? Thanks

Welcome to Android Central! Have you also looked in the system settings, under Settings>Apps, then selecting the app, then Notifications?

Hi, I have registered now. I am the original poster. Yes, I have done that. What I'm saying is that when I go into settings for a specific app using settings>apps>notications>categories and change the notification sound for that app, it still continues to play the default notification sound selected for the whole phone under settings>sounds and vibrations. I don't know if this is related, but I recently set up this phone using smart switch. My previous phone was a galaxy s8. I did have that phone set up to play different notification sounds for different apps but that wasn't maintained with smart switch. In at least some cases, the previous sound is not avaliable on this phone. But if it is related to that, it doesn't really explain why I can change the app setting to a certain sound but that is not the sound that actually plays. I have tried restarting the phone also. Thanks for any thoughts.

Are these custom notification sounds? If so go to My files app and put them in Notifications folder see if they stick

I made you the owner of the original guest post to make it easier for you to find.

It can be a little tricky sometimes, because if you only change the notification tone for a certain notification channel of an app, but don't locate the actual default notification channel option, then you might keep hearing the system notification tone instead of the one you chose.
